CNAs, LPNs, and RNs interesting in working through ShiftMed in Washington, DC (Maryland side) must have professional licensure through the State of Maryland and must upload identification (passport, driver’s license or photo ID AND Social Security card to complete I9 verification). Other required documentation includes a 1-step PPD, 2-step PPD or TB blood test (completed within the last year) or chest x-ray (completed within the last five years); physical results (completed within the last year); and an I-9.

Next-Day Nursing Pay: No-one Else Has It

There is a staff shortage in many hospitals, assisted living facilities, rehab centers, and skilled nursing facilities. Many nurses and certified nursing assistants (CNAs) have been hesitant to work due to the pandemic. Those that are working are juggling many tasks as hospitals double down on shifts and assignments for staff. It has been reported that in ICUs, many nurses have to focus on three patients instead of the standard two.

Is There a Nursing Shortage?

A dynamic nursing shortage is already underway for registered nurses. It’s happening locally, nationally, and globally. Unfortunately, it’s already starting to impact medical and care facilities—a problem that will continue to grow without a recruitment and retention plan.  

As a counterpoint, the demand for skilled nurses is growing. An American Association of Colleges and Nursing (AACN) fact sheet notes that “according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Employment Projections 2019-2029, registered nursing (RN) is listed among the top occupations in terms of job growth through 2029. The RN workforce is expected to grow from 3 million in 2019 to 3.3 million in 2029, an increase of 221,900 or 7%.”
